Medicare Supplement Plan Comparison
Compare all 10 standardized Medigap plans side by side. See exactly what each plan covers so you can make a confident, informed decision about your Medicare Supplement coverage.
Understanding the Medigap Plan Chart
Medicare Supplement plans are standardized by the federal government, which means Plan G from one insurance company covers the exact same benefits as Plan G from another. The only differences between carriers are premium pricing, customer service quality, and company financial strength.
There are 10 standardized Medigap plans, each labeled with a letter: A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N. Each plan offers a different combination of benefits. The chart below shows you exactly what each plan covers so you can compare them at a glance.
Important: Plans C and F are only available to people who became eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020. If you turned 65 or first became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020, Plans C and F are not available to you.

*** Plan N pays 100% of Part B coinsurance except for a copay of up to $20 for some office visits and up to a $50 copay for emergency room visits that don't result in an inpatient admission.
Plans K and L have an annual out-of-pocket limit. Once you reach that limit, the plan pays 100% of covered services for the rest of the calendar year.
Plan Highlights at a Glance
Plan G — Best Overall Value
Plan G is the most popular choice for new Medicare enrollees. It covers everything Plan F covers except the Part B deductible (which is $257 per year in 2025). Because Plan G premiums are typically much lower than Plan F premiums, the savings usually far exceed the deductible cost. Plan G also includes coverage for Part B excess charges and foreign travel emergencies.
Plan N — Lower Premium Option
Plan N offers lower monthly premiums in exchange for small copays at doctor visits (up to $20) and emergency room visits that don't result in hospital admission (up to $50). Plan N does not cover Part B excess charges or the Part B deductible. It is an excellent choice for healthy enrollees looking to minimize monthly costs.
Plan F — Most Comprehensive
Plan F provides the most complete coverage, paying 100% of all Medicare gaps including the Part B deductible and Part B excess charges. However, Plan F is only available to those who became eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020. Premium rates tend to be higher because the pool of enrollees is aging and no new members can join.
Plans K & L — Cost-Sharing Plans
Plans K and L feature the lowest premiums of any Medigap plans but use a cost-sharing structure. Plan K covers 50% of most benefits and Plan L covers 75%, until you reach an annual out-of-pocket maximum. Once you hit that limit, the plan covers 100% of covered services for the rest of the year. These plans work best for those who want catastrophic protection with lower monthly costs.
How to Choose the Right Plan
Choosing between Medigap plans comes down to balancing monthly premiums against potential out-of-pocket costs. Here are some key questions to consider:
- How often do you visit the doctor? If you go frequently, a plan with no copays (like Plan G) may save you money overall.
- Do you travel outside the U.S.? Plans C, D, F, G, M, and N include foreign travel emergency coverage.
- Is budget predictability important? Higher-premium plans like G and F give you the most predictable costs with little to no out-of-pocket surprises.
- Are you comfortable with some cost-sharing? Plans K, L, and N offer lower premiums in exchange for copays or coinsurance.
- When did you become eligible for Medicare? If after January 1, 2020, Plans C and F are not available to you.
